Why donate to horse rescue?

According to survey information collected and published in 2007 by the Unwanted Horse Coalition, over 170,000 horses and other equines go unwanted every year.  Most cases of neglect or abuse are the result of the owner no longer having the means to care for the animal. 63% of rescue facilities are at or near full capacity. As a result, rescues are forced to turn away 38% of unwanted equines needing rescued. Horses that are turned away are often sold at auction to kill buyers who purchase horses for slaughter. Horse rescue facilities provide life saving care to abused or neglected horses, and many of these horses stay at these facilities for life. As many horses stay in rescues as are adopted out. Horse rescues acquire horses through owner remittance, by purchasing them at auction (to save them from slaughter), or are seized by law enforcement. It costs approximately $2,300 annually to care for one horse. Help Tricolor Tack raise funds to care for horses in need!
